Is It Thanksgiving Stuffing or Thanksgiving Dressing?
I’ve always called the traditional Thanksgiving side dish stuffing. But is it? Most say that stuffing goes inside a turkey, and dressing is cooked separately in a tray or baking pan. Whatever you call your seasoned bread turkey side, this one is my favorite!
How Can You Make Thanksgiving Day Cooking Easier?
Our secret to Thanksgiving cooking is to do most of the side dishes the day before (shhh – don’t tell anyone!). We make our stuffing (oops – dressing, I guess!) and our sweet potato casserole the day before the holiday. On Thanksgiving Day, we reheat these two items before serving. For the turkey, the easiest way is to use an Instant Pot with a turkey breast. There’s no need to thaw it for hours – follow this recipe for an Instant Pot Turkey Breast, and you’ll be able to enjoy the holiday with friends and family instead of in the kitchen all day (our goal is to have dinner on the table in 90 minutes or less on Thanksgiving Day – no all-day preparation here!). If you want a great, easy dessert, try our bread pudding with brandy sauce. This year, I’m committed to Making Thanksgiving Dinner the Easy Way – you can do it too!
Here’s Our Thanksgiving Stuffing Recipe – Enjoy!
Thanksgiving Stuffing Recipe
Ingredients
- 12 tbsp butter
- 2 cups onion finely chopped
- 2.5 cups celery finely chopped
- 40 slices white bread cubed (we used Nature's Own Butterbread, 2 loaves, without the end pieces)
- 3 apples finely chopped (we used Snapdragon Apples – nice and sweet)
- 2.5 cups milk
- 5 eggs
- 3 tbsp Bell's All-Natural Seasoning
- spray Pam Original Cooking Spray
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- Melt the butter in a large nonstick frying pan.
- Saute the onions and celery until golden, approximately 10 minutes.
- While the onions and celery are frying, cube the bread (approximately two loaves without the end pieces).
- Mix the bread, sauteed vegetables, apples, milk, eggs, and Bell's All-Natural Seasoning in a large pot or mixing bowl.
- Spray a 9×13" disposable foil pan with Pam Original Cooking Spray. Wipe with a paper towel, insuring all surfaces are covered.
- Pack the stuffing mixture into the disposable foil pan, pressing down. Cover.
- Make at 375 degrees for approximately 1 hour. You'll know it's done when the stuffing internal temperature reaches 165 degrees throughout (check it with an instant-read thermometer).
