An Introduction to Honey Garlic Shrimp
I don’t know about you, but sometimes you need to be able to put together a dinner quickly. Here’s a simple dinner on the table in about half an hour!
This recipe is flexible. If you’re planning your meal, you can make the marinade the night before. Instead, you can let the shrimp marinate in the refrigerator for as little as 15 minutes. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you can serve dinner with this recipe. The best part—it’s good!
Honey Garlic Shrimp with Broccoli over Rice
Equipment
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup honey
- 1/2 cup soy sauce you can use reduced sodium if you prefer
- 4 cloves garlic minced (or 2 tablespoons of Spice World Minced Garlic)
- 2 teaspoons ginger fresh minced, or 2 teaspoons of Gourmet Garden Ginger Paste
- 1 pound shrimp medium uncooked, peeled and deveined
- 2 teaspoons olive oil
- green onion optional, chopped for garnish
- 3 cups rice whichever type you prefer – Minute Rice, brown rice, etc
- 16 oz broccoli frozen is fine or fresh
Instructions
- Mix the honey, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger in a bowl. Stir until well combined. Half of this will be used in the marinade (see the next step) and half will be used when you cook the shrimp.
- Place the shrimp into a zip lock bag or a sealable container. Pour 1/2 of the sauce on top, shake or stir, and allow this to marinade in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes (or up to 12 hours). Cover and refrigerate the remainder of the sauce that will be used when you cook the shrimp.
- Before beginning to cook the shrimp, steam the broccoli and prepare the rice.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the marinaded shrimp into the skillet and discard the used marinade. Cook shrimp on one side until pink, usually about 45 seconds. Flip the shrimp over and pour in the remaining marinade. Cook until the shrimp is cooked through, about 1-2 more minutes. Stir in the broccoli (make sure to drain all water first) just prior to serving.
- Assemble dinner: rice on the bottom, honey garlic shrimp & broccoli on the top. Garnish with chopped scallions if you prefer.

Other Ideas for Honey Garlic Shrimp
I haven’t tried it yet, but this could work with a stir-fried frozen vegetable medley instead of broccoli. Another interesting addition could be sliced water chestnuts (just be sure to drain them first if they’re canned).
